This change has been long time coming.
Mints and Numbers is still less than a year old and it has already gone through some massive changes.
When I started M&N, I didn’t follow any strategy. I was just trying to create a resource for graphic design, although haphazardly.
I had a background in web design and development ( although not wordpress websites ) and all I knew was that I wanted to get even better at the design aspect.
I tried to learn more about typography, colors, logo design, branding and what not everything along the way. I am not going to remind myself about the obnoxious sums of money that went into learning these new skills.
Come to think of it, I wasn’t even being very smart with my new knowledge or skills. Facepalm.
I was not selling any services or any products.
I got lucky, that my niche found me.
My first clients noticed my skills and asked me if I could design for them. Turns out, I actually enjoyed working with clients.
And so M&N grew from there, but the website didn’t keep up. I made some tweaks here and there but they were not enough.
The site needed room to grow with process, packages and portfolio and the old site was not designed to keep up with these changes.
So finally I had a chance to overhaul the brand and web design which will be here to stay for a long time.
New Brand Identity
Ironic, I designed logos and other identity elements for my clients but I never really had a logo.
The old logo was just simply typed out in one of my favorite typefaces without a thought given to the composition or the layout.
A brand identity overhaul was in order.
I always loved the vintage designs so the new designs are a blend of vintage and modern.
I did realise that designing for yourself can be the hardest thing to do.
Once I finished all the details, I quickly hit publish before my inner critic had the chance to emerge again.
New website design
I finally have a complete home page which clearly reflects what I do with ample room to add or remove information from.
A process and packages page, a new about me page ( I would rather be abducted by aliens than have the old one still up ), a better contact page, and a complete portfolio page.
My favorite part of the design is the little designs at the top of each page.
New signature freebie
The free email series – Killer Brand Foundations – is the new signature freebie for M&N.
Quality designs for your brand are important but so is your brand messaging which is often overlooked.
I want to make sure that you are well equipped when it comes to creating a compelling brand for your business.
I had been talking about starting an Instagram account for the whole year now.
I wanted a place where I could share my work, show behind the scenes, shamelessly talk about myself, connect better with my audience and Instagram is just the right social network.
So we’re finally on Instagram and it’s like my new jam!
Here is the fresh new account!
What’s coming next?
I will continue to share more of what I learn on the blog, more details on my thought process.
Although, after having honed in on a niche I can be more strategic with the blog content and slightly less haphazard.
Your own projects are never really done. But, I couldn’t wait for everything to be just perfect before I launched. I could be waiting forever if I tried to nitpick every little detail.
So getting some professional photographs which are on brand for M&N are next on my To Do list.
Instagram Lives and Videos
To me, video is equal parts exciting and scary.
Yet, instead of writing a whole blog post, I would rather post short video snippets of tips and updates. So watch out for those in the near future.
This is it so far, you can join me on Instagram where I share the latest updates and design tips .
What do you think of the overhaul?
